Abstract
The challenge of grinding wheel control gives rise to introducing new quality criteria. The elastic modulus proves particularly meaningful for evaluating grinding wheels and can, as shown here through natural frequency measurement, be determined simply and above all very accurately.
The grinding wheel material is a composite with stochastically distributed proportions of grain, bond, and pore space. When referring to an E-modulus in the following, this represents a substitute E-modulus for a corresponding homogeneous, isotropic material.
Key Findings
This E-modulus is calculated from the measured natural frequencies of the freely vibrating grinding wheels, and it is shown that there is a clear correlation between specification and E-modulus.
